Top 6 IELTS Listening Tips to Increase Your Score in IELTS Listening

The Listening section is the first task you’ll encounter on the IELTS test. The good news is there’s no difference between this task on the Academic and General tests. Both versions are the same.

It is believed now that, listening section has become easier as compared to reading or writing, it’s not always necessary. It’sspeed is quite fast and demand full concentration, candidate still needs to be well prepared. If you want to gain higher scores, you must have the ability to grasp English language and skills of time management.

Luckily, there are number of options for you to achieve success. Some tips are here to improve your IELTS listening section.

There are NO Repeats in IELTS Listening exam, so make sure to Pay Attention.

Recording of every section is played once. That’s why you should be active listener and make sure don’t miss any useful information. Here are some practice tests which helps you to listen recordings without having any fear of environment. Now, let’s come on the main pointpractice full test of listening by playing recording once.

Read the Questions Carefully

It sounds weird, candidate must be attentive to listen what is being asked in given questions. Most of the questions are presented with instructions, like write NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS for each answer.’’ Its mandatory to follow instructions, otherwise your scores will be marked wrong.

Write Your Answers on the Question Sheet First

In listening four recordings are played in over30-minute period. During this time, you should be writing your answers down as you move ahead. Since you will be answering lots of questions very quickly, you should write your answers on the question sheet to save time.

If in-case you were not able to transfer your answers on sheet, you won’t get score points for that. As you will get score for your answers if you transfer them from the question sheet to answer sheet. Fortunately, you have an extra 10 minutes at the end of the Listening test to copy your answers over to the Answer sheet. Since you don’t have to worry about doing this until after the recordings are done playing, you should spend the time in between each recording to answer any questions you missed and look ahead to the next section’s questions. As I said be alert as Listening won’t be played again.

Spelling Counts…In the End:

If your answer is misspelled you won’t get any score for it. So, make sure you’re spelling your answers correctly, as it will not be marked correct if a word is misspelled but don’t worry about checking your spelling while you are listening to the audio. In fact, don’t worry about typos in general during this time.

You only get to hear the recordings once, so there’s simply not enough time to worry about your spelling. Instead, you can worry about spelling when you transfer your answers over to the answer sheet during the 10 minute transfer time at the end of the test.
