IELTS Listening Tips for BAND 9

IELTS Listening, the module in which you can achieve 9 bands easily. The fact which make this module bit complicated is that you can hear the audio only once and it cannot be paused or repeated. This means that you will have only one chance to hear and locate the answer. Another thing that raises its difficulty level is that you have to perform different tasks like listening the audio, reading the question and writing them all at the same time. Performing all these things all at the same time is quite difficult and need full concentration to do it accurately. These things can be handled and if you are finding it difficult just read todays article IELTS Listening tips to score 9 bands and achieve your desired band scores.

1. Follow the instructions given in the test. If there is written Write no more than three words what do you mean by this? It means that the answer can be of one two or three words and not of four words. So write the answer in the said limit. In the IELTS, you will have to read the instructions of what to do and follow them. As if you don’t obey them you will lose your scores.

2. You will hear the recording only once as it is not played again. So that means when you have your test you need to listen to the recording carefully. Also, you need to read the questions at the same moment. And write your answers so that means on the same time you are listening, reading and writing. Then you really are multitasking during this listening test. It can be quite difficult and it’s something that you need to do practice.

3. Many students use pen when they transfer their answers but they should use pencil. Because with pencil your handwriting will be clearer and you can easily erase your mistakes. So make sure that you use the pencil in your listening test.

4. The scores are calculated by the number of correct answers you have. So there are 40 points. If you have 34 right answers then you get 35 point because in listening there will be no negative marking.

5. You should right your answers in capital letter because, your answer will more clearly when you use the capital letter. Some student’s handwriting is too bad and it’s very difficult to understand. So, try to use the capital letter for all answers because it is easy for examiner to understand.

6. The aim of the IELTS for listening and reading is to find answers. You get a point if your answer is correct. So your focus should be just on finding the answer instead of understanding all words of listening. You should try to understand the main purpose of the question. As you all know that some words are difficult in listening and reading. So it is not necessary to find the exact meaning of them.

7.  You need to be careful for the singular and plural. Many foreign language speakers struggle to hear plurals. So you need to pay attention does that word have an “s” or not. If you have sentence completion sometimes you can see in the grammar that you need a plural answer. So you need to keep your ears open to listen the word carefully. Also most of the speakers use British accent. So a student doesn’t understand the last word. Is it singular or plural? In that case, you need to do more and more practice to understand the accent of them.
