IELTS READING YES/NO/NOT GIVEN QUESTION TYPES
IELTS reading consists of 13 types of questions which students need to solve.
This question type is quite similar to true/false/not given questions. This type is actually somewhere tough too. Firstly, read out the given instructions carefully. This is basically a type which is presented with one or more paragraphs followed by different sets of statements or sentences to examine the point of the writer. Your work is to read the passage and questions carefully and understand the main idea clearly. Afterwards, compare the questions with the passage about whether it matches the writer’s thought or not.
Your answers related to these questions will be based on the following conditions:
If the information matches with the writer’s opinion – YES
If the information doesn’t match with the writer’s thought – NO
If the information is not found in the passage – NOT GIVEN

Strategies and Tips
Find the different passages which contain the questions between YES/NO/NOT GIVEN. Simultaneously go with the practising of TRUE/FALSE/NOT GIVEN, as it will surely help you to know the difference between the given information and the writer’s point.
When you start reading, read with activeness and try to understand the main idea of the passage. Further, start reading your set of questions.
Don’t read passages too fast, stay relaxed. Also, don’t waste your time by reading the whole paragraph.
Look out different key words in the questions. Those words will help you to locate the relevant information.
Remember, mostly you are not able to find the exact words. So, look for different words with the same meanings.

Candidates should emphasise the writer’s opinion more as they are essential. Also, keep in mind that the writer’s opinions are not directly mentioned in the passage. The text agrees with what is said in the question statement, the answer is Yes. If it contradicts, the answer is no. If the information is not sufficient to decide, the answer is not given.
Remember, while practicing, you should keep on increasing the level of difficulty. You should practice the paraphrased questions more. In other words, reading should be like that which would have different and complicated sentences.

Don’t try to apply your knowledge to answer the questions, focus on the topic to answer that. Your answer should be based on the information given in the passage.
If you focus only on the writer’s opinion, then you will be able to find the answers quickly.
Yes/NO/NOT GIVEN questions set follow the order of the paragraphs. So, in this you will get the answer to another/second question only after the first one.
