4 Do’s that can boost your IELTS Speaking Test score to 8

IELTS aspirants have many questions regarding IELTS Speaking test like How can I score 8 in IELTS speaking? How can I get high score in IELTS speaking? Or What should be avoided in IELTS speaking test? All these questions are co related and fortunately there are some tips which can answer every question mentioned above and we will discuss about it today in 4 Do’s that can boost your IELTS Speaking Test score to 8.

1. Be calm

For IELTS speaking test you should be  calm and piece minded and the best mantra is arrive the test venue on time to make yourself familiar with the atmosphere. If you get late, you will rush to the examination room, nervous and uptight and believe me you will feel pressurized in front of the examiner.

If you are all stressed and pressurized you really can be in trouble. If you think that examiner will help you to be in a comfort zone than you are wrong as the examiners will not care about you. IELTS examiners sometimes do speaking tests for many students back to back non-stop and it’s hard for them to take care of them.

2. Elaborate your answers

In IELTS speaking you are suppose to elaborate your answer especially in part 1, because in this part the general questions are asked and if you will not give the answers in full the examiner will ask you ‘why’ after every question and it gets annoying for them to keep asking you ‘why?’ So, when you should add a bit of extra information without being asked.

Your extra detail will make the examiner’s job a bit easier and if they feel better about you the chances of getting good band score increase. This is not for sure but who knows if it happens.

3. Do have an opinion

In part 3 follow ups you must have your opinion. In part 3 of the speaking test you have a discussion with the examiner about abstract topics such as ‘globalization, education, crime prevention’.

In this part even, if you do not actually care about the topic being discussed or you don’t have any interest in a topic but still you just have to make a decision, agree or disagree, or state an opinion. Here opinion means opinion don’t try to be a judge and give your decision about anything. Once you finished with your opinion then you can expand on it with explanation and examples and this is where the secret sauce for bands 7, 8, and 9 bands.

4. Speak without hesitation

Don’t think too much before speaking as some of the aspirants take a big pause before leaping to prevent themselves for committing any grammar mistakes. This will surely help you to be grammatically right but it will actually slow down your speech and your scores for fluency will be deducted.

Thinking too much about the grammar you are going to use in the sentence will make you hesitate and hesitating will bring down your ‘fluency and coherence band score’ significantly.

To avoid this things you need to reply to the examiner as soon as you can with the first answer that click your mind. By this your fluency will become better, you will hesitate less and your grammar will be the best it can be as you will be speaking based on your lifetime experience of English grammar and not on how well you can remember and apply grammar rules in your head under the pressure of an exam!.
