Sentence – The awful spectre of civil war looms over the country.
Group Discussion – a type of discussion that involves people sharing ideas or activities.
Sentence – Group discussion is also immensely helpful in convincing patients that they can choose a course that feels right to them.
Handout – a piece of printed information provided free of charge, especially to accompany a lecture or advertise something.
Sentence – There’s a four-page handout that you can pick up as you leave.
Research – a detailed study of a subject, especially in order to discover (new) information or reach a (new) understanding.
Sentence – He lost interest in much of his research.
Proofreading – the process of finding and correcting mistakes in text before it is printed or put online.
Sentence – Correction and improvement, page setup and proofreading, or rejection of the manuscript are all practical activities that constitute the third level of editing.
Experiment – a test done in order to learn something or to discover if something works or is true.

Reference – a writer or a book, article, etc. that is mentioned in a piece of writing, showing you where particular information was found.
Sentence – I keep my reference books near my desk for convenience.
Textbook – a book that contains detailed information about a subject for people who are studying that subject.
Sentence – This is the standard textbook on the subject.
Student Advisor – a person who advises students or others on personal problems or academic and occupational choice.
Sentence – You may go to the Student Placement Office or ask Dr. Thomason, the Foreign Student Advisor in the Administrative Building.
