Understand the Question:

First step is to understand the question as the question that comes in the exam is not straight forward. It may look simple but it always has some information that is confusing and can mislead you. It’s better to read the instructions and question carefully so that you know the actual demand of the question.

Note the key concepts on the paper:

It’s better to note down the key stages in the flowchart as it will help you to describe the task effectively.

Introduction & Overview:

Introduction is the first sentence of the IELTS writing tasks for this you can paraphrase the question and write a single sentence to write an impressive introduction. After introduction comes the overview. It is very important as it contributes 25% of the score. In overview you should include a very brief explanation using the key stages that occur in the essay.

Organize the Information:

To make your given information understandable for the examiner it is necessary to organize the data in a proper manner. You cannot just write the information as given in the chart.

You should observe from the starting and follow through each stage and get the accurate information. Every stage using the elements it consists of should be described. Make sure that you describe all the stages.

Supporting Information:

Supporting information increases the intensity of the discussion so you should include it. You should pick only the relevant information available in the chart. Don’t go in depth or produce any information of your own. If you do so your score can suffer.

Grammatical Range:

As you know that in IELTS accuracy in grammatical range is must so you should be careful about it. Try to use the simple present (in it active and passive forms) and present perfect. These tenses are normally used in explaining processes.

You should be careful while using active verbs and passive verbs. You should structure the sentence to highlight the subject.

The conclusion:

In this conclusion part you should give the summary and should not give your opinion. You have to explain the diagram without missing any important details. Remember, you should not give opinion as you are not supposed to judge the task.

Thank You 🙂
