It’s not uncommon for some people to fail in IELTS exam in the first attempt. Fortunately, the exam can be retaken as many times as you need to obtain your required score. However, you do have to pay fees each time you take the exam. So, its advisable that you prepare for the exam before you attempt it as its cost every time you retake the exam.

Rather than blindly attempt to retake the exam multiple times until you get a passing score, it’s better to figure out your mistakes and why you failed the first time. Always review your exam, and make sure to work hard on those areas that you need help with.

There are four different exam sections in IELTS Exam that you must complete and pass. Each section is awarded its own score. From those four scores, you receive an overall exam score which is also called your Band Score. Everyone has a different reason for taking the IELTS exam, you could have minimum score requirements.

Before retaking your IELTS exam, we recommend you to go through the following steps to help you improve and achieve a passing score the next time you take the exam.

Step 1: Review each section of the exam.

Firstly, analyze that on which sections you get didn’t get passing scores? Did you fail one, two, three, or all four sections? By reviewing each section, you’ll know which ones you need to work on more next time.

Step 2: Obtain free IELTS exam prep materials from your local Test Centre.

Your local IELTS Test Centre can provide you with a wide range of free test prep materials for each section of the exam. Additionally, you can access many of these prep materials online through our website. Material is the key to prepare for your IELTS Exam as it helps you prepare better.

Step 3: Practice, practice, and practice some more.

The best way to learn English Language is to practice as much as you can. Listen to TV programs and music in English with subtitles. Read English books and newspaper, small articles etc. Practice your Englishspeaking abilities with your English-speaking friends.

Step 4: Take a practice IELTS exam.

There are various types of practice Mock Test examsavailable similar to the IELTS exam. It will give you an idea before the main exam about how to attempt it, where you stand, how much band you can score and most important time management. So, do appear for the mock test as it will give you a rough idea about your current preparation.

Step 5: Register to retake your IELTS exam.

Once you’re confident, you have prepared sufficiently, register and pay the fee to retake your exam. The night before your exam, eat a well-balanced dinner and go to bed early so you can get plenty of rest. On the morning of the exam, eat a full breakfast before arriving at the Test Centre.
