It is commonly said that “Well begun is half done” so it is very much concerned in the IELTS writing task 2 introduction. Introduction is the first paragraph of the essay as it should be very impressive and create curiosity in the reader that what will come in the upcoming content.  Introduction should attract the reader so much that he ends by reading the whole content. Beside there are several other things that an impressive introduction can do so in this article we will discuss Importance of Introduction in IELTS Writing Task 2

Some things that a good introduction do:

– Impresses the examiner in the first sight.

– Shows that you understood the question properly.

– The examiner gets an overview of whole content that you will cover in your essay.

– It focuses your thoughts and keeps you on track while writing.

To make your introduction presentable you should make it in an organized way that it can not only be impressive but also understandable. To make the introduction good enough you should follow the below given structure.

1. Paraphrased question

2. Thesis statement

3. Outline statement

This is a common structure and can be used for any type of essay but keep in mind that it should not be more than 3 sentences with the total of 40-60 words.

Simple two steps that will help you to write good intro paragraph

• Read and analyze all the information properly provided to you.

Introduction is the first step to respond the question so you should know what the question is asking for. You whole should revolve around the topic and for doing this it is mandatory to read and understand the demand of the question. This will also help you to explain all the parts of the prompt.

• Do NOT copy material from the prompt.

You will get some clues from the question about how to approach your opening paragraph, make sure you use your own words (paraphrasing) when writing your introduction. If you use the same words or phrases as in the prompt, the examiner can think that your range of vocabulary is limited and can affect your band score. Instead, use synonyms, put the information in a new order, and break down more complex ideas into smaller ones, while making sure you’re accurately stating the topic.

Extra Tips for writing Task 2

1 Be specific

Starting the paragraph with a general statement is always a wrong approach you should be specific about the topic.

2 Thesis statements

Don’t forget to write the thesis statement (Statement is a summary of the main idea of your essay). This statement gives the clarity to the examiner that either you have understood the question or not.

3 Give your opinion

It is very necessary to give your opinion in Task 2 IELTS writing tasks. So your opinion should be clear and loud.

4 Use appropriate language

In the Task 2 it is mandatory to write formal language. As per the norms of IELTS your writing style should not be informal. If you write the essay in informal style you will be penalized for it.

5 Stick to the Statement

In the IELTS writing task you need to be focused on the given topic. In the whole essay you should give the main and supporting points which are relevant to the topic. If you get off the track than your scores will be deducted. Another thing is that you should also include an example to justify your view this will enhance your scores.
