Now a day every student wants to go overseas for higher studies and for this it is essential to clear the exam of IELTS. So before you appear in the exam you should know about IELTS in depth.  International English language Testing System commonly known as IELTS is the most renowned high stakes English language proficiency exam for study purpose, work and migration, with more than 3.5 billion tests taken in the past year.

The IELTS results are recognized by more than 10,000 organizations, including educational institutions, employers, professional associations and governments, in almost 140 nations around the world. IELTS is taken in two types i.e. paper based and computer based. Paper based exam is more popular as it is conducted since this exam has been introduced. Due to the advancement of technology new form of exam which is conducted on computers has been launched by the authorities and with time this test is gaining popularity.

Paper based IELTS

In this test, there are the 4 modules; Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The first three written exams are held on the same day on a paper and speaking test contains face to face conversation with a certified examiner.

You will take paper based test in a conventional manner at a desk with question papers and answer sheets for reading, listening and Writing tests in an official IELTS test centre. You’ll have to write your answers with HB-pencils. The speaking test will be carried out one by one with a well trained IELTS marker.

Your results will be available after 13 calendar days from the actual test date.

Availability of Examination

The test dates in India are available 4 times a month or 48 times a year, and are normally held on Thursdays and Saturdays to provide flexibility and convenience to the candidates.

IELTS Test format

There are 2 types of IELTS

*Academic

*GENERAL TRAINING

You can choose one the most suitable to your taking the test. However, there is an equivalency in both the listening and speaking, while subject matter of the Reading and Writing sections varies depending on which type of test you are attempting.

For the Speaking test, you can book a slot online according to your preference on any date and time. If you fail to choose a slot within the stated time period, a time slot will be automatically allocated to you. The total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes.

IELTS listening test (half an hour)

You will come across to 4 recording sections and then answer the questions asked. The recordings are of native English speakers the duration of the test is 30 minutes.

IELTS reading test (60minutes). The IELTS reading tests needs you to answer 40 questions and is designed to test you an array of reading abilities. You would have to do skimming, scanning, read for main gist, ideas, details, logical arguments and figuring out the writer’s attitudes, views and opinions.

IELTS Writing test (60minutes) .The IELTS writing test requires you to complete 2 tasks and covers general topics based on the module you are taking. The task 1 duration is 20 minutes, and task 2(40minutes).

IELTS Speaking test (12_15minutes). The IELTS speaking test is being assessed to evaluate your Spoken English abilities. This test contains 3 parts, and the whole interview is recorded.
