In IELTS writing mind mapping plays a vital role especially in writing task 2 to score good bands. First of all let’s discuss what does the term mind mapping means? As the name indicates it is to note down or to draw a map of what comes in your mind when you get question paper. There is a blank space in the question paper it is given to write your views or to make a map or plan your writing.

Benefits of mind mapping-

Many aspirants think that writing on the question paper is just the wastage of time but it’s not like that there are many benefits of this practice. First one is, as soon as you read the question numerous ideas come in your mind and if you write some of them it will be easy to develop those ideas. Moreover, they will not skip from your mind as during writing you can get pressurized. Besides, the mind mapping also ensures that you stick to the task and your task respond is accurate. Another benefit of this practice is it help you to get your essay well structured as you write the points accurately one after another.

How to perform this activity of mind mapping?

The first thing you should do is to read the question carefully and understand it take 4-5 minutes to make an outline. In this process you are suppose to only write the words or headings which can give you the whole idea at the first glance during writing and don’t write full sentences as it will consume lot of time.

Here another point is to be kept in mind that if you only write the main heading then there are chances that you can forget the supporting points so it is recommended to write the reason and example keywords also so that you can justify your essay properly.

As the bands can be deducted for lack of coherence and Cohesion as these are judged according to your ability to link the paragraphs. Mind mapping can save your bands in this also as it will be clear to you what to write first and what to on the second number and even your supporting points will also be ready only thing you will need some vocabulary and accurate grammar to connect  the whole matter.

Choose the ideas which can be easily elaborated.

– Your ideas should be relevant according to the question.

– Make sure you connect the points with each other properly.

–  Also, ensure to think of the advantages or disadvantages related to it.

– Practice with topics that you can expect in the exam.
