Sample Answer:-

There are several similarities between what younger and older people say makes them most happy. However, there are several striking differences.

Firstly, let us look at the similarities. It is noticeable that for both younger and older people, the highest percentage says that achievement at work brings them most happiness: 31% for the younger age group and 32% for the older group. Doing hobbies is also very important for both groups: the second largest percentage of both age groups mention doing hobbies as making them most happy.

Turning now to the differences, many younger people regard having a good appearance as extremely important: 18% of them state this brings them most happiness. This is followed by 15% who state that travel brings them happiness. Neither of these two factors is mentioned by older people. Instead, 20% of older people report that having financial security is most important to their happiness and 14% say they feel most happy when they are with their family.

General Writing Task 1:-

Two weaks ago you bought a radio from a local branch of a well known chain of shops. It didn’t work properly the shop took it back and said they would repair it. You have waited a week and still it is not ready.
Write a letter to the shop complaining. In your letter

– What has happened
– How you feel
– Ask them to repair the radio very soon or supply you with a new radio.

Sample Answer:-

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to show my dissatisfaction with the service offered by your outlet/staff with respect to the radio which I purchased from your shop via bill number Y38944PXY.

On 1stApril, 2020, I bought a radio of “Foxin Company”. It worked well for two days, nevertheless,  on third day when I tried to power it on, unfortunately, it didn’t start. After making several attempts, I couldnot ascertain what went wrong. I felt completely disappointed as huge amount of money was spent by me on this device. Moreover, besides purchasing product of an esteemed brand and being loyal to your shop over the years, I never expected this contingency.

I would be grateful to you if you could replace this item with a new one in case it is beyond repair, however, if it has minor glitch then repair it but take your action promptly as its been a week already I have got no reply from your side. Hence, I request you to expedite the process.

I hope you will look into this matter.

Looking forward to reveive a positive reply from your side.

With regards,

Jasmeen Kaur

Writing Task 2 (AC+GT):-

People formerly believed that education enlightens us, but in this corrupt world, we are forced to admit the fact that “education has made our mind more corrupt.” To what extent do you agree with this?

Sample Answer:-

Education is to enlighten and to empower the qualities within us and to make us confident to face the challenges of the modern world. Conversely, it is generally found in today’s world that educated people are engaging in all kinds of nefarious (= immoral/evil) deeds. By considering this, this essay agrees to the statement that education is corrupting people’s minds, rather than enlightening them to be civilized.

One prominent aspect of the issue is that we have the knowledge, expertise and technology today to solve many problems confronting humanity. However, the reality is harsh. Poverty, starvation and diseases repeatedly claim victims. The gap between the haves and the have-nots is widening steadily.

Another aspect is the role of religious hypocrisy and political inclinations among the educated to get things done in modern society. It must be noted that numerous religions and political parties are controlled by educated people. These people use their dogmatic beliefs of religions and unrealistic political ideologies to fulfill their selfish motives.

Yet another aspect is how business organisations engage in fraudulent (= dishonest/illegal) practices without any qualms. It is shocking, especially when the high educational background of many business magnets is* concerned. There are corporate managers and chartered accountants who amass riches by hook or crook.

To sum up, the ultimate purpose of education is to make people civilized and to make them law abiding citizens. Opposed to that, many people believe rightly that education does not necessarily make everyone wise and good. Unfortunately, there are people who misuse education to justify their dubious vicious ways of life, which does a lot of harm to the multitude.
