The prominent reason for students to score a 6 or lower band in IELTS speaking task is they don’t follow the methodology which should be followed strictly. You should understand that vocabulary, grammar and coherence play an important role in evaluation and sticking to the methodology will help you to fulfill all the requirements for getting 7+ in IELTS Speaking. What examiner wants?
In IELTS, your speaking skills are judged on how you can communicate and understand the language. The examiner look for whether you understand what is asked from you in English especially when you go to a native English speaking country.
There are some tips for speaking but if we talk about what exactly are the things that you should keep in mind to score 7+ in speaking than these are things to remember-
1. UNDERSTAND THE QUESTION:
First thing you should do is to understand the question and answer it accordingly without going off the track. Going off the topic can penalize you; even if you speak fluently and use various sentence structures with accurate grammar.
For example: The question asked is, “where do you live?” in reply some would say “I am from Punjab.”
This answer is grammatically correct but it didn’t respond the question. You could be from Punjab but you could be living in Canada.
You should say “I reside in Punjab.”
The change of words that was used in the question “live” was changed to “reside”. This is an example of using better vocabulary.
2. RANGE OF VOCABULARY.
Use a range of vocabulary while giving speaking test and you should ignore the fact that in non native English speaking countries, people use simple English to communicate. You have to use better vocabulary to describe the question and should avoid repetition of words.
3. COHERENCE (LINK THE SPEECH):
Your speech should be linked via connectives i.e. your sentences should be correlated with each other and this will enable you to keep the listener (examiner) engaged.
One more thing is that you should be in fluency and for this don’t switch from one topic to another.
4. GRAMMAR: GRAMMATICAL ERRORS SHOULD BE AVOIDED.
The another important thing which make your speaking impressive and sensible is grammar as your scores will be deducted for grammatical errors so you should avoid any mistake.
The list of the topics:
In IELTS speaking task, various cues are created based on handful of IELTS speaking topics. Let’s take a look at the different topics on which questions are frequently asked in all the three IELTS speaking tasks.
IELTS SPEAKING TASK 1
The topics in this section are general in nature. Topics which you encounter in daily life like newspapers, and magazines are asked in this section like-

IELTS SPEAKING TASK 2:

6. Hypothetical: Your take on imaginary situations
