The Best Time Strategy for IELTS Exam

Managing time is the toughest for a test taker especially in reading and writing modules of IELTS. It is a big problem to finish the tasks in the given time and many of them leave some of the questions unanswered or finish the task in hurry as a result commit many mistakes.

So, today we will discuss about how to manage the time in reading and writing modules.

1. Enough time to solve- Don’t think that the questions are very lengthy and it is not possible to solve each of them in time. Examiners set the paper in such a way that it can be completed in the given time period. All that matter is your competency and your requirement, more the scores you need more you have to be expert in language so that the questions can be solved in time.

First of all you should know your weak and strong points. To identify this, attempt a practice test without any time limits and see where you are lacking if any specific question type or in generating ideas etc. work on it to improve.

2. Move quickly

In reading you have only 1 minute to solve a question and if you are taking more that this than the possibility of missing other answers increase. So if your target score is 7 or above it you cannot afford this delay. It’s better to leave the question which takes more time and move towards the other as it’s not a wise decision to stick to one question and leave several others.

Opt skimming and scanning method to go through the passages quickly. Sometime while searching for other answers you can get answers of others just grab the opportunity.

3. Use common sense

Sometime common sense also help to find the answer quickly as you can identify which answer can be in which passage by just reading it heading. So always try to understand the heading and correlate it with the question surely you can get some benefit from this.

4. Make sure the answer fits

It is often seen that the candidate take shortcuts and randomly pick an answer and he don’t even see whether it suits with the question or not. This mainly happens when the aspirant find any keyword and just stick to it and he don’t see either the information is relevant with question or not.

Before writing the answer make sure that the answer is suitable with the question or not if you have doubt in it search for other keywords in the passage you will find the correct answer.

At last I will again say practice a lot as all these tips and strategies will not be effective unless you go through the test yourself. So keep practicing..

With Best Wishes!
