How to write a thesis statement?

Understanding the task of the essay is very important to write an effective thesis. Here are some guidelines which can make your task easier to identify the task.

Let’s take an example of a topic:

Nowadays in many countries chemicals are used to produce and preserve food.

Do the advantages of this use outweigh the disadvantages?

In this question you have to write whether using of chemicals to produce and preserve food items are more advantageous or disadvantageous.

So basically in the essay you have to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the issue, and in the thesis statement you have to make clear that you will go with advantages or disadvantages. According to this opinion you should move forward in the essay if you say that this issue has more pros than cons than you should write more advantages then disadvantages.

Here is an example introduction, with the thesis in bold:

Now a day’s many chemicals are used to get good harvest from the crops and to preserve the food for long time. In my opinion, this trend has more disadvantages than advantages.

If you are confused by the word ‘outweighs‘ don’t write it as the question is simply demanding to write advantages and disadvantages.

One more thing to remember is that the thesis statement differs from question to question for this you should read and understand the question carefully.
