THINGS MUST BE NEGLECTED IN IELTS ESSAY

IELTS Writing tasks should always be written in the formal language. The same should be followed in writing Task 1. Your marks are deducted if your sentences have errors in vocabulary as well as in grammar. You can write idioms as well as strong phrases only if you know the exact usage and the meaning.

In GENERAL TASK 1, sometimes you get an informal letter to write, so it’s specific there that you ought to use the informal language only. Also, you need to put sine contractions in it.

Your band score lies between 6 and 6.5 if you put these errors that are stated below. You may not lose much if you do any of them.

THINGS MUST BE NEGLECTED IN IELTS ESSAY

1  Don’t use those words – “Learnt by heart”

Examiners are expert to check the language tone of the exam. If you mention any of the crammed answers, it is very easy to detect by the examiners. A number of students think that they will show off more or they can use some fancy phrases. Examiners are trained to point out the errors and memorise answers.

These types of errors are easy to spot because the other errors are easily spotted. In other words, they are easy to find as other written content shows contrasts with the memorized answers.

Don’t use Slang or Idioms

Idioms are the set of phrases which are used to depict your extended language into the short form. These idioms should be avoided as these have the tone of informality and are mostly used by English speakers commonly in a wrong way.

You have a chance to use them in the speaking section, but it’s compulsory to use them accurately. You must have 100% surety if you are representing them in your speaking. If you are mesmerizing them in the speaking part, then the examiner will notice it and that too will lower your score.

Implementing Pronouns

You are allowed to use personal pronouns such as you, we or our. These are the words which we usually use in the place of nouns in order to avoid repetition. If you use them in excess, i.e. in each sentence, then you may be way toward losing your scores. As over involvement of these will get informal.

Contractions or Short words

I’m, I’ve, I’ll these kind of written abbreviations are considered contractions. Shortened words are words such as ‘info’ for information,  ‘uni’ for university or  ‘asap‘ for as soon as possible. Avoid using these sloppy words as they are also a part of informal words.

Informal Phrases in Opinion

In my opinion, the best way to write this is that you should include the summary of both the body paragraphs. In conclusion, you should be very clear while stating your opinion.

If the question asks you or you, then it is asking clearly for your opinion, such as: ‘To what extent do you agree or disagree?’ / What is your view’ / Do you agree or disagree? / What is your opinion?

Using  ‘and so on, etc, like, eg, i.e ‘  when giving examples

In writing, several words are there which lay emphasis on writing scores. Whenever we write a formal letter or an essay, there is no space for words such as ‘and so on’ and they are not acceptable. These are considered to be the lazy words in writing and you will further need to explain them more. It’s the same with ‘etc’ or ‘eg’ .. avoid these and give a clear explanation of your points. These words are fine if you use them in an E-mail or in a memo, but not in IELTS writing. These words are preferable in the IELTS Speaking section, in that you need to lead a fluent conversation with the examiner.
