Tips on Speed Reading IELTS

If you are preparing for the IELTS academic than you should know that you get three long passages Reading module but in the IELTS general training the passage will be shorter but you will get three to five of them and obviously, you don’t have enough time to read all that and answer the 40 questions. Do you actually need to read all this? No, you just need read all the lines that contain answers. So that’s what you really need to read carefully to answers all the questions to this passage correctly.  The rest is the background information. But of course you have to read through all the text to find the keywords. You can read each and every word of the passage if your reading speed is good. So today we will give you some tips on IELTS speed reading if you follow these techniques you will be able to read fast.

1. Read phrases not words

Do you read each word one by one carefully follow by pencil? If yes then this means that you pay much attention to an article as you do to a keyword and this wastes your time. So train your eyes to read in chunks in word groups because by this you can see several words at the same time.

2. Stop hearing words in your head

When we hear words we are reading in our minds. It slows us down because we can’t move on to the next side. Hearing words is handy for intensive reading. But when you want to read fast you should be able to switch off this habit.

3. Read one article a day

You should read the whole article extensively. Read it quickly. You should not stop when you start to read article. Or don’t translate anything in your language. Don’t reread anything probably you won’t be able to understand everything but you should not go back to read and understand them. For this feeling you should be able to retrieve the information that you can get without getting too confused about some bits you can’t understand. Once you finished reading read the same article again. At that time you need to read intensively slow, carefully and translating your words while reading.

4. Read in English

Apart from reading the article similar to IELTS reading you need to read as much in English as much possible if you are thinking about reading a book buy it in English or if you are searching for instructions that how to do something then search it in English. The more information you consume in English the faster your brain will be able to process it. Read newspapers and magazines to enhance your reading speed.

5. Divide your time

You should know how to manage your time in IELTS Reading. It’s a good idea to read the questions in the first 2 minutes before reading each passage so that whenever you come across similar information, we can read those parts a bit carefully. Some of the students firstly read the question then move on passage side and again they read the question. So it consume more time. They should read questions just once.

Moreover, you can practice taking a glance at the passage and scanning the important words. You should take care about several proper nouns like names of individuals, places, or a concept to have a basic idea of what the passage is talking about. In this way you can do reading faster and you will able to attempt all questions.
