Speaking in any language is a skill and one has to be very clear and loud in this skill to convey his message to other. When it comes to IELTS speaking you have to be too good in it to score good scores. One can be expert in it only by practicing and the most prominent way is to keep talking in English.

The IELTS speaking is judged under these parameters: –

Fluency & Coherence.

Lexical resources.

– Grammatical range & Accuracy

– Pronunciation.

I have seen that many students want to speak English like a native, for this you have to put some efforts. For this here are some tips & strategies to ace the Speaking as a native speaker.

1. LISTEN CAREFULLY: –

You can watch videos of native speakers’ internet through “YouTube” and also on “TV” and “Radio”. You can also listen western songs, as this will help you to gain more knowledge.

Keep in mind, to take the maximum benefit you should listening to a range of accents and speakers as this will definitely help you to understand their speech patterns and fluency of your speech will definitely improve.

2. TRY TO ADD MORE IDIOMS IN YOUR SPEAKING

Try to add some common idioms in speaking such as “It is raining cats and dogs” means raining heavily or “over the moon” means extremely happy, using these idioms can not only  make your speech more impressive  but also you will sound like a native speaker.

3. PRONUNCIATION

It is the most important factor as the pronunciation of native speakers is very different from the residents of non English speaking countries. Below are some examples, how a native speaker, specifically pronounce some words: –

– Get rid of a sound: – When “and” comes between two words, then “d” from article “and” often disappears from the pronunciation.

Example: – Fruits an(d) vegetables.

Similarly, a native speaker eliminates “er” while pronouncing words such as moth(er), broth(er).

Examples: – He is my broth(er).

4. INTONATION: –

Native speakers use a lot of variation in their level of voice in term of pitch and give word stress accordingly. Sometimes, they use high pitch and sometimes they use low pitch. This variation in pitch of the sound is known as “INTONATION”. Pitch depends upon the expressions that they want to express.

For Example: – when expressing something with great zeal, voice, automatically gets high or rise.

Similarly, describing something with sorrow, voice automatically gets low.

To illustrate: –

* I am sorry↘ (low pitch)

* Thank you↗ (high pitch)

5. RICH VOCABULARY

Try to add variety of new words in your speech; this will make your speaking more impressive and attractive. Moreover, you will get extra score for lexical resources. Make sure to practice on daily basis and keep an eye on the pronunciation of words. Here are some examples:

VOCAB WITH SYNONYMOUS

1. Ample – Spacious, broad, plenty

2. Everywhere – ubiquitous, omnipresent

3. Impressive – Spectacular, striking

4. Mistakes – Blunder, fault

5. Wonderful – Astonishing, breathtaking

6. Renovating – Revamp, modernize, mend.

7. Environment – Ambience

8. Responsibility – Onus, liability

9. Enjoyment – Recreation, delight

10. Beautiful – Alluring, tempting

6. BE CONFIDENT & NATURAL

Deliver your speech with confidence as a native speaker do. A native speaker speaks each and every word of sentence with confidence and natural flow. So you should build-up confidence in your speech. Practice as much as you can by reading and listening speaking content. Get familiar with different accents. Your speech should be natural, do not try to cram anything because, in order to sound more like a native English speaker, what you say is as important as how you say it. More as how you say it. More natural your speech more will be the attractions.
