16 Magical Tips to boost your bands of IELTS Writing Task 2 to 7+

IELTS writing task 2 in academic and general exam is the same which is an essay. Word limit for this task is minimum of 250 words and time limit is 40 minutes. Hence, writing task 2 have more value and bears more bands so it is highly recommend to write it in a proper and structured way. Many of the students are not able to score more than 6.5 in this task in spite of writing everything in a proper way. They cannot understand the problem for scoring less in the exam so here are some 16 Magical Tips to boost your bands of IELTS Writing Task 2 to 7+

1. The main thing is to read & understand the topic of the essay for Writing Task 2.

2. You should identify all the essential parts of the question, so that you can answer them accordingly.

3. Organize your ideas and make sure that each of your ideas is properly explained and well supported with examples.

4. If the question asks for your opinion, give a clear opinion and make sure that it should not be diplomatic. Besides, your opinion should not contradict with your own view that you explained in the essay.

5. Learn the structure of an essay.

6. Learn how to paraphrase the question in the introduction part. If you copy the same wording as in the question you will lose your scores.

7. In the end of your essay a conclusion/overview is mandatory. While writing your conclusion you should not add new information or point in it. Best way is to rephrase your key points, and give a strong ending sentence that ties everything together.

8. Essays are always formal so write in a formal style throughout the essay.

9. Explain your every idea properly and don’t go for short notes or short sentences.

10. Use a variety of grammatical structures and smart vocabulary.

11. Avoid repetition of words for this learns various synonyms and a range of vocabulary.

12. Keep an eye on word limit as your essay should not be less than 250 words if it went down you will lose scores. Neither write too much your essay should be about 250-280 words.

13. Write neatly, so that the examiner can read and understand the words easily.

14. Practice makes perfect. Practice as much as you can by writing practice essays on different topics, and evaluate them by an English teacher for mistakes and improvements.

15. Practice timing yourself at home, and stick to the allotted time for each section. During the real test, bring a watch and manage your time carefully.

16. Proof reading. Finish your task in 35 minutes so that you get 5 minutes to look over your essay for any spelling, grammar, or other mistakes.

In point 13 we talked about writing neatly, all of us know that in IELTS, handwriting is not evaluated and don’t have any effect on your scores. However, it affects indirectly on your score. If your handwriting is not tidy or understandable, the examiner will have to do efforts to understand it and sometime he even may think that you have misspelled a word and will mark you lower on lexical resources.

Moreover, handwriting makes your first impression on the examiner and if your writing is not neat and clean than definitely your first impression will go wrong. The clearer your work, the better first impression you will make on the examiner.
