Tips to improve the pronunciation in IELTS Speaking

Pronunciation is very important in every language to make the person on the other side understand what you are saying. In IELTS pronunciation has an important role as is one of the factor upon which the score is marked so the candidate should be very careful about it and if any student is facing any problem in saying any word should work on to improve it before the exam.  So today in this article we will give some Tips to improve the pronunciation in IELTS Speaking.

It’s hard for many students to resolve this problem so let’s first see the reason behind it.  Well, one of the reasons is that we can’t make some sounds in English because those sounds are not present in your native language. So when you speak English, we replace those difficult sounds with some other sounds that we can make. That’s why we mispronounce words all the time. So the first step to improving your pronunciation is to learn to pronounce all of the main sounds.

First way to do that is to find some pronunciation exercises for each sound in English practice. After, you are practiced making all the sounds, and then you will have the perfect pronunciation. It’s not too simple to pronounce the words. There is a problem.. And the problem is the sounds in English are very similar to each other. Why is that problem.??

Because some people don’t have the ability to easily distinguish between all the different sounds in a foreign language. So when you hear two different sounds in English. If those sounds are similar your brain might perceive those sounds as the same. That’s why learning to make each sound separately may not work. For example, “pen” and “pin” and “sheep” and “ship”. Both words have the same pronunciation. Usually students face difficulties when they face these kind of words. The best way to train your brain to recognize the difference is to listen to the words at the same time.

* shadowing is also the best way to improve the pronunciation. This means that you are repeating directly after a native English speaker. You could repeat after every word or you could listen to a full sentence and repeat which will help with your intonation.

* pronounce the words in front of mirror. In the mirror you look actually at what your lips are doing and what your tongue is doing. To improve it do practice of different words and see what your mouth is doing with each words. You can also look at other people’s and try to pay attention to what their mouth is doing. What they are saying in these words also.

* Along with it, take a recorder and record yourself. So you can say a sound or word and you can film yourself saying the words. Because one problem most of the student has is they make mistakes in their pronunciation but they don’t know while making mistakes. They can’t able to hear themselves when they speak. But when you record it then you can go back and you can check your mistakes. So it is good to listen to how you sound by recording.

* Every word in the English language is made up of syllables. A syllable is a pronunciation unit with a vowel that may also have consonants. If you need a refresher, a vowel is A, E, I, O, or U. A consonant is any sound you make that is not a vowel sound.

A good example of a word with two syllables is “mascot.” You’d pronounce it like this: “mas-cot.” The word “attention” is three syllables: “at-tent-tion.”So it’s also the good way to improve the pronunciation.
