Listening is interesting module of IELTS. Many candidates escalate their overall band scores just because of this module. However, it’s hard for few students who have lack of concentration. Therefore, today we shed some light of the tips to prepare for IELTS Listening.

Listen music

Listening to the English music will definitely enhance your language comprehension. Not only improve the language comprehension but will also increase your vocabulary. Also it helps to brush up the pronunciation. While listening the English music you come to know about new words and how to pronounce them. And don’t forget to sing too! Yes, that’s right, as you are listening to some songs, try to open your mouth and sing along. Since you are imitating the sounds, your tongue will become more accustomed (usual) to English sounds, thus improving your English pronunciation. So I suggest you to listen the English song whether it is sad, romantic, pop, rock. You can listen song according to your taste.

Watching films

Movies or films not only entertained to the juveniles yet its give many other benefits such as motivate to the people, improve the language (communication skill). Watching movies is a great way to boost your listening skills. You will hear English used in a natural way, informal English, slag words and phrases you do not often find in books or dictionaries. Along with this, you will have chance to learn many words, phrases and grammar and how they are used in real life. You should try to catch the grammar points and words that you already know or you are not familiar with. You should also replay if you don’t understand the sentence and play again without the subtitles.

Also, don’t stress yourself too much, just enjoy while watching movies. If you follow these criteria then surely you can boost your scores.

Think in English

Many language experts agree about one key rule. Thinking in a specific language helps you learn that language. Many students of English often try and translate everything in their heads.

You cannot translate every time because –

Translating has two main problems. First, it is slower. Second, you remember your language and forget the English.

On the listening exam you won’t have time to translate. Also, you’ll have to remember key English words. So, when you’re practicing English… think in English!

As far as, you should create the English environment in your surroundings. You should force to your friends to speak English when they are with you and listen to the conversation of them.

Some other Tips

  1. There are several preparation tips for getting good score in IELTS listening. The best thing to enhance your listening skills is to listen some English speakers. It is a good idea to do this exercise to learn and understand the assent of the native speakers.   You can use internet for this purpose by downloading or subscribing various videos and channels. It can also work as a stress buster and make you feel relaxed by hearing and watching this mode of learning.
  2. Use the time given at the start of each part to quickly read and understand the upcoming questions. This will help you to identify the kind of information you need to listen for.
  3. Information given in the starting of each part gives you the idea about the upcoming content like who is speaking, the situation and the purpose so listen it carefully.
  4. Headings, sub-headings and paraphrasing can be used as clues to know what to listen for and what the answers might be.
  5. Underline key words in the questions. Make sure you read the instructions and keep them in mind to implement the word limit required in answers: one word; a group of words; a letter; true/false etc?
