Understand and Analyze an IELTS Writing Task 2 Question
In IELTS writing often students get their scores deducted because of task 2. The main problem for not achieving good scores is not analyzing and understanding the question type. Only because of this many test takers who are good in grammar, using vocabulary and even have unique ideas get less band scores. The reason behind is not understanding what the question is demanding for?
So it is very necessary to read and understand the question and give the relevant answer to get good scores. First let’s take a look why some brilliant students not do so well?

Opinion Essay
Discussion Essay
Problem solution Essay
Direct Questions Essay
Advantage /Disadvantage Essay
Let’s look at an example question:
The internet allows us to stay connected with each other no matter where we are. On the other hand, it also isolates us and encourages people not to socialize.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answers and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
The topic word here is ‘The internet’ and the category of the essay is opinion essay as it clearly asks whether you agree or disagree. Now many students consider it as discussion essay and write accordingly which leads to deduction in marks.
Identify question type
These words define the question and tell you what exactly the examiner wants from you. Like here he is asking for your opinion.
So it is necessary to know about each question type as this can enhance your scores.
