How to analyze the essay questions and understanding the IELTS writing format
The IELTS writing task 2 is the second part of the writing test. In this part, you are presented with a viewpoint, an argument or a Problem and asked to write an essay in response to the demand of question, in a word limit of 250 words within 40 minutes. The writing task 2 sections focuses more on elaborating the applicant’s capability to write an accurate response that is in terms of content, ideas, the accuracy of vocabulary and grammatical range.
The test takers require providing opinions and causes behind the arguments, and there should be proper grammatical accuracy. The task 2 is designed to evaluate the skills of Writing of the learner’s to determine, if they are suitable to work and study in English-speaking nations.
Writing task 2 has 66% of the total writing marks. It is essential to do well in this task, to get 7band and above. Writing skills are very crucial part of communication. Better writing skills give allowance you to showcase your language proficiency and achieve the desired goal of studying or working in English-speaking countries. *There are numerous books available for understanding the task 2 questions.
*Be familiar with the basic format of the essay question and IELTS writing rubric.
*Usually the essay contains a statement that depicts the general situation which is followed by the certain points to write about.
*The general statement can cause a problem, eg: stress in the modern life is increasing. This might be then followed by the questions like what do you think are the main causes of this? What are the possible measures can you suggest? Your answer should be arranged around the prominent reasons and then give suggestions for solutions. In case, you just need to give reasons and support the relevant solutions.
*Remember that you also required to give your opinion, when it is asked.
*The organization of the question provides you the arrangement of your essay don’t contradict it with the statement or to be over….
* Analyze your questions by concentrating first on the organizing or words (reasons, impacts,effects, preventive measures etc.) that are contained in the question.
*Make proper list of the common words used.
*If you are asked to give your opinion about a view point, the common instructions used are: To what extent do you agree OR disagree? How far do you agree or disagree? What is your opinion? Note, these might be combined with questions about causes etc.
*Note that when you are asked just “To what extent do you agree?” This means you can disagree !!
Check your writing efficiently
*Read this section before and after you write and keep in the mind.
*Leave 3_5 minutes for the proof reading.
Be aware of the mistakes you often do and look out for these. It can create a difference between a score band!!
*As it is difficult to identify all the errors at one time, check for one kind of mistake at a time.
*Firstly, check your spellings. Instead of scanning the text forwards, scan it backwards. Alternatively, scan at random, jumping from one paragraph to another paragraph. You will see mistakes quickly as you are not engaging with the words, but looking forward at word pictures. You may not spot all the errors, but you will find a few.
*Scan quickly in the beginning of each sentence and the beginning of each paragraph. Check if the linking words, the reference words or synonyms you use are correct.
*Check the verbs_tenses? Singular/ plural agreement? The actual form of verb?
* Check that your connecting words are accurate and that you have not repeated any of them.
* If you tend to make other errors, like wrong use of articles, study them and look for them in particular.
* Do practice so that you can do all such things at the same time while going through the text from beginning.
