Viable – that will be successful

Sentence – There is no viable alternative.

Turmoil – state of great noise or confusion

Sentence – My emotional turmoil had drained me.

Traumatic – psychologically or emotionally stressful

Sentence – Don’t you find exams traumatic?

Sabotage – to damage or destroy equipment, weapons in order to prevent the success of an enemy

Squander – to waste time, money, etc.

Sentence – He had to squander our precious money on a box of tin junk.

Retaliate – to react to something unpleasant that somebody does to you by doing something unpleasant in return

Sentence – He insulted people who could be guaranteed to retaliate hurtfully.

Redundant – no longer needed for a job and therefore out of work

Sentence – My husband was made redundant last year.

Rapport – a friendly relationship in which people understand each other very well

Sentence – She felt an instant rapport between them.

Punitive – intended as a punishment

Sentence – He was awarded punitive damages .

Proponent – a person who speaks or argues, often publicly

Sentence – I am a proponent of setting goals.

Ponder – to think about something carefully or for a long time

Sentence – She sat back for a minute to ponder her next move in the game.

Mortify – to make somebody feel very embarrassed

Sentence – Her behavior mortified her parents.

Lucrative – allowing somebody to earn a lot of money

Sentence – She has a lucrative deal with a cosmetics company.

Feasible – possible to do

Sentence – It’s not feasible to follow your proposals.

Implausible – not easy to believe

Sentence – Her explanation is not implausible.

Infuriate – to make somebody very angry

Sentence – Her silence infuriated him even more.
