Vocabulary in IELTS exam plays an important role as without it you cannot clear any module of the exam. It is not only necessary for speaking or writing but also for reading and listening. In reading and listening various synonyms are used and if you don’t have good knowledge of words you will not be able to locate the answers. If you are preparing for IELTS plan things to enhance your vocabulary and don’t ever ignore this important factor. So, keeping this in mind we will give some ways to improve the vocabulary.  

1. Read a lot

There are numerous things in the market that can be read but the thing is the right stuff should be choose that give you the maximum benefit. So here the question raises what should you read? Anything and everything, but the most important thing is: – you should read in which you are interested in. If you like sport, movies, fashion and so on then try to read the magazine according to your taste of tongue. Also read the scripts of the movies. If the movies are based on the novel then try to read the novels related to that. This is the best way to Increase the vocabulary.

Don’t just try to learn the words but also write it a lot. Use the words that you learning. As you know every time you learn new words you should try to note down on your notebook all the time and make sentences by using that words. Make sure that the sentence clearly shows that you know the meaning if word.

2. Don’t limit yourself to one new word

When you learn the new word make sure that you also learn the different forms of those words like noun, adjectives, verb as this will help you to use the word in sentence in an appropriate manner.

For example: – “beautiful” is a new word for you

You should know the noun, adjective, verb of it.

Noun : beauty

Verb : beautify

Adjective: beautifully

3. Look for the antonym and synonym

It’s also the good way to learn vocabulary. Antonyms are the words which have the opposite meaning however the synonyms have the similar meaning. For example: – you have a word “blury” its synonym would be “fuzzy” and anonyms would be “clear”. If you find any word which is new for you then write down it and try to find the synonyms and anonymous of that words this will not only enhance your vocabulary but also help in reading and listening modules. In these modules you will not find the same word in question or answer as synonyms are used in them so more you have synonyms in your pocket more you will score.

3. Play bingo game

Firstly you need to draw a grip of 4/4. Then write in the new vocabulary. And try to get meanings of that. This is the way to expanding your vocabulary is fun and effective way. Also you can play this game with your friends and get more new words from them. Along with this try to use those words in day to day life.

4.  Use the dictionary and thesaurus

Online dictionaries and thesauruses are helpful resources if used properly. They can increase your memory about synonyms that would actually be better words in the context of what you’re writing. A full dictionary definition can also educate you about antonyms, root words, and related words, which is another way to learn vocabulary.
