WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR WRITING SKILLS FOR IELTS

Writing seems to be Hercules task for everyone but it is not like that anyone can do it by just following few tricks which can make your writing effective. Below are the some steps which can help to polish your writing skills. I think if you follow these steps you will find that your writing task has improved.

GET FEEDBACK ON YOUR WRITING

The first thing to do is to take the feedback on what you have written. You should go to some English teacher or anyone who has scored good marks in the exam or some friend who has sound knowledge of the language. When your work will be checked by any of them you will come to know which aspect in your writing is to be improved whether sentence formation, vocabulary or grammar. This will make the task easier as you will know to which section you need to be more focused.

UNDERSTAND THE STATEMENT

Understanding the statement is very necessary in both Task 1 and Task 2 if you will know what the question is demanding from you than only you can write in correct method. In a letter (Task 1 in General Test) you should first identify whether it’s formal or informal than only you can write correct salutations and closings. Same in the essays you should know the form of essay if it is “discuss both views” you should emphasis on both the sides given in the statement if you are unable to justify the task you will lose scores. After you know the demand of the question you can outline your task and start writing.

FOLLOW THE EXAM INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY

In IELTS writing Task 2 you are instructed to write 250 words you can write up to 270 words but don’t go above this limit, as this is the easiest way to lose marks. Same is with Task 1 where limit is 150 words you can go to 160 words.

ALWAYS MAKE AN OUTLINE

I always say to make an outline before you start writing. If you draw an outline this will help you to save your time as you will have an idea which point is to be raised after one another and your essay will be well structured and organized. Moreover, you will write in a flow as you will not stop to think “what next?” and you can focus more on vocabulary and sentence structure.

PUT YOUR BEST FOOT FORWARD

As it is said first impression is the last impression it is imposed here also so you should put you strong point or idea in the first paragraph so that the examiner get impressed by it in the starring of your essay. In the second and third body paragraph you can present your other point and views.

KEEP IT SIMPLE

IELTS writing task judge’s your ability to write your ideas and views in English language clearly and they don’t see your smartness or your knowledge about the given topic. So it is important to make clear your views and ideas and to make well structured essay. You should give relevant supporting points and examples. Your conclusion part should be linked with your thesis.

PROOFREAD!

Proof reading is must in the writing task you should reserve some time at the end of the exam to recheck what you have written. This helps to identify and correct any spelling or grammar mistakes done by you. You can also add some strong vocabulary in it but it does not mean that you find any of your point irrelevant and you start writing it again than surely you will run out if time.

PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!

Do practice, write one or two topics on daily basis and go for checking. Correct your identified mistakes and write again. Only practice can make you good in IELTS.

KEEP PRACTICING
