Aberbourne Beach – Regulations for Use

Aberbourne Beach is a beautiful natural resource. To keep it in its wonderful state, we have put together these regulations. Please follow them, so that our beach remains a great place for everyone to visit at any time. The regulations are imbedded in the local byelaws and those breaking them can be subject to fines from the police. Seasonal opening times: Summer Months – 1st May to 30th September Winter Months – 1st October to 30th April

Open Times

The beach is open all day and night every day. People are permitted to swim, but they should look out for the flags that are flown to show swimming conditions. Green – safe swimming; Blue – take care while swimming; Red – dangerous, no swimming. There are lifeguards on duty in the summer months (see above) from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and those people who swim outside those times, do so at their own risk.

Games

Playing games on the beach is a traditional and fun thing to do. Whilst doing so, however, make sure that you do not create too much noise or bother other people sitting near you. No-one likes a football in their picnic lunch.

Rubbish

Please make sure that you take away your rubbish from the beach or put it in the many containers provided. Rubbish can be dangerous to both people and wildlife. Be especially careful with sharp metal (i.e.: from cans) or glass, as of course so many people are barefoot on the beach.

Parties and Barbecues

If you want a party on the beach, you have to apply at least 7 days in advance for permission from the council. We will make a decision quickly, so that you can plan your party. Make sure you include all relevant details, such as how many people, times, music etc. People are permitted to have barbecues on the beach between 6 p.m. and 10.45 p.m., but not at other times. Please take away your rubbish when you’re finished.

Music

If you play music on the beach, make sure it does not affect other beach users. If it can be heard more than 10 metres from you, then you may be asked to turn it down or off. Don’t wait to be asked – do it first!

Animals (Particularly Dogs) It’s an offence to bring animals on the beach in the summer months (see above). Outside these summer months, animals are allowed on the beach. Failure to clean up after an animal is subject to heavy fines, even in the winter months.
