IELTS SPEAKING INTERVIEW

PART – 1 INTRO

What is your name?

My name is Oppriya Uvi.

How may I address you?

You may address me as Oppriya.

May I see your ID?

Sure, here you go.

Who is your favourite celebrity in your country?

I guess not only me, but a number of young people have also been highly impressed by her for the past months- Deshauna Barber. She is our 2016 Miss USA and the representative of the USA in Miss Universe taking place in Las Vegas in the same year. After the beauty contests, she became well-known for her outstanding beauty, her amazing characteristics and also her professionalism.

Do you like any foreign celebrities?

Absolutely. The person I’m gonna talk about is my bias ever since I was a teenage girl-Miley Cyrus. I guess most people at the same age as I, grew up with Disney Channel and among its successful series, Hannah Montana starring Miley Cyrus would always be on top of my list. Although now she’s grown up, I’m still a big fan of her amazing voice and highly inspiring songs.

Would you like to be a celebrity? Why?

Well though I’ve never thought about it, I’m pretty sure that rising to stardom would never be one of my life goals. I appreciate all the efforts that the celebrities, no matter which field they’re working on, are making every single day. However, I find myself not belonging to that world, I mean, you never know what’s going on when the curtains close, right? So yeah, I don’t think I want to become a public figure, to be honest.

Do you think we should protect famous people’s privacy?

Indeed. As you probably can tell, these days fans, anti-fans and even non-fans are so curious about what their bias is doing. Some are aggressive that they mentally attack their bias by leaving bad comments online. Some even approach them in person on the street, especially the so-called paparazzi. Thus I strongly agree that there should be some regulations to protect the celebrities’ privacy.

How do celebrities influence their fans in your country?

I think the influence of celebrities on fans is extensive. It’s somehow natural to follow our bias and try to be like them. At the first place, it could probably be just physical changes like clothing, hairstyle or makeup. However thanks to the social network, fans and idols are much closer now, sometimes it’s just a status away. However, this mental connection is a two-edged sword, meaning the idols actually need to be more careful about their lifestyle or their manners.

SAMPLE ANSWER

IELTS Speaking Interview

I believe that India is a land of celebrities. We have the second-largest population in the world, so we have many popular people as well. Most of the popular people in India are either movie actors, cricketers or politicians.

Today I would like to talk about a sportsperson who has been a constant source of inspiration to the millions of other people in our country and me. His name is Virat Kohli, and he is a cricketer. He plays as a right-handed batsman. He is just 33 years old and also one of the greatest players of the Indian Cricket team.

He is the lead batsman in all three formats of the game, i.e. One Day Internationals, Test Cricket and Twenty Twenty matches. He is also ranked as one of the world’s most famous athlete by the Forbes Magazine. One of his greatest achievements was leading the Indian Under 19 team to victory in the World cup tournament.

He debuted (note the pronunciation – debued) for India when he was only 19 years of age and since then he has never looked back and broken a lot of records. Currently, he has the second-highest number of International centuries in the game, just behind the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

From a personality perspective, he is an aggressive player with a winning attitude and a strong commitment towards the game. I feel that he is the perfect example of the saying that hard work is the key to success.

One thing that a lot of people don’t know about Kohli is that he lost his father while playing a test match for his state team but he still continued to bat and only after he had saved his team from losing he went for the cremation of his father. Apart from sports, ViratKohli also does a lot of charity through his foundation, which works for better education and healthcare of underprivileged children.

A few years back, he got married to famous Bollywood Actress Anushka Sharma. They got married in Italy, and it was one of the biggest weddings of the year 2017. I wish that he will win the world cup for India in 2023 and lead India to the number one spot in all formats of the game.

PART – 3: FOLLOW UP QUESTIONS

What are the qualities of being popular?

A popular person is one who is a people’s person. He should be friendly and approachable by people. He should be helpful and empathetic. He should be a good listener and try to lead by example.

Do you know any popular star who likes helping other people?

Many celebs are attached to some charity organisations or are running their own NGOs. Salman Khan has his charity “Being Human’, which is doing a lot for Charity.

Do you think children should imitate their idols?

It is not a question of whether they should. We have to realise that they will always imitate. So, the onus is on the celebs to be good role models and do what is good to be imitated.

What influence do popular stars have on teenagers?

Teenagers want to be like their favourite celebs. They take them as their idol. They are influenced in both good and bad ways. If their popular star is endorsing any product then teenagers blindly want to buy that product even if they don’t need it. If their popular star is doing something good, such as helping the poor, teenagers also go out and do the same.
