IELTS Speaking Interview

Do you like shopping for new clothes?

Yes Of course! I love shopping for new clothes. Buying clothes makes me happy and it is the only kind of shopping that I enjoy. I often go for shopping when I do some remarkable work and reward myself with new clothes.

About how much money do you spend on clothes a year?

I don’t remember the exact amount, but I think I usually spend around 10,000 to 15,000 Indian Rupees in a year on clothes and I believe that is the minimum amount that an Indian girl spends on her clothing.

Do people dress the same when they are depressed as they do when they are very happy?

I feel people dress up differently when they are in different moods. Such as when people are happy they wear bright and colourful clothes, and they actually try to look better than usual. For instance people are most happy when it’s their birthday or some family function, so they try to look best. On the other hand, when people are depressed, they don’t make many efforts to look good.

What do you think about men who wear earrings?

I think it is completely their personal choice to wear earrings. Fashion is all about comfort and if men are comfortable with that, we should not judge them. Fashion has no gender. Wearing earrings is their way of expressing their sense of fashion.

I do not eat chocolate very often. I eat chocolate once or twice a month. Usually I like dark chocolate, which is not very sweet.

PART – 2 CUE CARD

Talk about a boring meeting you had with other people

You should say

– When was this meeting?

– Who were the other people?

– What did you converse about?

And explain why you found this meeting boring.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Boredom is the word used to describe a task or situation when the human mind finds a task dull and uninteresting, something mundane oftentimes a repetitive task that becomes monotone. To alleviate our boredom we can do a lot of things, but sometimes it is just better to suffer.

IELTS Speaking Interview

Take last year for example. I had gone to a family reunion because our twice removed uncle had built a new house, thus everyone in the extended family was invited to the house warming. Since it would be unspeakably rude to deny such an invitation, I was forced to leave my weekend plans and drive a good four hours form the city all the way to my ancestral village.

Once there I had to pretend to recognize distant relatives who might just as well be strangers for all I knew them. We took a trip to the temple, it was a hot sweltering day, I was wearing a large Indian traditional gown and on top of that I am an atheist.

Needless to say, I was finding this expedition more and more cumbersome by the minute; it all looked to be a giant waste of time. When we arrived at the house, we had another three-hour long ritual of chanting while sitting around a fire. I was very fed up by the time everything began to wrap up. As if that wasn’t enough, my aunt proceeded to drag me into the most boring and futile conversation I have ever had in my life.

IELTS Speaking Interview

Generally, I am a great conversationalist and I love to listen, asking questions at the appropriate moments and really getting to know the other person. But this was truly beyond me. The village ladies had all sat in a circle and were bragging to each other about how much milk their cows gave, how much money their husbands made, and how many marks their four-year-old got in their latest test.

Every single sentence was repeated what felt like dozens of times, the conversations were simply shallow and intrusive. How one could live a life that revolves around envy I will never understand. I am one for self-development; if you try hard enough you can learn anything. Why then discuss the mundanity of life when you have the miracles of possibility, of learning, and of development to talk of?

IELTS Speaking Interview

I felt extremely tired after that taxing day, I am aware this is not a nice thing to say but, oh my!! Relatives are indeed simply tiresome! Even when you are bored you cannot say anything for fear of making your family feel unwanted. It is a delicate balance of wanting to love them and see them dearly but not having the courage to converse for more than a minute. That was my story of a tedious meeting I had to attend.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS

Do you think you are a creative person?

Yes, I am a creative person, but all my creativity is for myself only. Every day I creatively mix and match my old dresses and make them look new. I also like to make pencil sketches out of my imagination and create different characters.

IELTS Speaking Interview

Is it good for children to learn arts?

Yes, it is very good for children to learn arts. Arts bring out their creativity and breaks the monotony of tough academic studies. Arts also keep children in touch with their culture and tradition.

What kind of jobs require people to be creative?

I think all jobs require people to be creative. If people are not creative then their job may become dull and boring after just a few days. If any job has to be done over and over again then some element of creativity has to be added to it. For example, an engineer needs to think of new ways to do things, the plumber needs to learn new things every day to make his work better and simpler, a carpenter needs to learn new ways of doing things that can add grace to his work, a teacher has to bring up innovative methods to teach so that children don’t get bored.

Do you think leaders need to have creative ability?

Yes, I think leaders need to have creative ability. If they are not creative, people then stop following them as they would appear boring to them, but if they add creativity to their work, to their talk, to the way they do things, then they will keep having followers.
