Many childhood diseases can now be prevented through the use of vaccines.
Should parents be made by law to immunise their children against common diseases or should individuals have the right to choose not to immunise their children?
SAMPLE ANSWER
Nowadays the majority of childhood ailments and diseases can be prevented with the help of vaccination. I believe that all the parents should be mandated by the law to immunise their children against these childhood diseases.
First of all, parents are not aware of many diseases and their serious consequences. There are many common diseases which can be harmful especially for children if the precautions are not taken on time. For example, diseases such as polio and smallpox attack children with low immunity and it is necessary to vaccinate them in the first six months. Therefore, there should be a strict law for vaccination and parents should listen to the government in order to protect their children.
Secondly, laws are required because many parents are still reluctant to vaccinate their children. This is primarily due to superstitions and irrational fears. Many parents, for example, believe that the vaccines could affect their child’s overall health or reproductive capacity in future. Hence, they decide not to vaccinate their children. Another reason is the existence of misconceptions. For example, many parents especially those in the developed world believe that vaccines will cause autism. This is a common belief is America where many parents do not give their children the MMR vaccine. Making vaccinations mandatory is the best recourse in this case. Mandatory vaccination laws will also make vaccines available for free for poor parents.
In conclusion, there are a plenty of childhood diseases which can be avoided through vaccination these days. In my opinion, there should be strict rules and regulations for parents to immunise their children because these diseases can be quite serious. Moreover, laws can benefit poor parents with free health check-ups and vaccines for their children.
