Some countries achieve international sports by building specialised facilities to train top athletes, instead of providing sports facilities that everyone can use. Do you think this is positive or negative development?
Discuss both views and give your opinion.

There is no doubt that these days’ countries spending more money on providing proper facilities for professional athletes rather than for the public. The question is, is it benefits the nation development? In this essay I am going to discuss the both sides and draw my own conclusion.
In terms of the advantages of providing an infrastructure for athletes, that these athletes are like ambassadors for their counties and as such deserve top training facilities. In other words, if they train very well, they will win and achieve a good performance on the globe stage. Thus, the reputation of nation will be enhanced. Moreover, the countries with largest number of professional players are often those with the best sport facilities. For example, the South American counties spend more of their budgets on training their top athletes, and they bring prestige and worldwide attention to their countries.
However, there are several important reasons that government should provide more public sports facilities than facilities that especially for professionals. First, the health of the nation is worth a lot more than the golden medals won by start athlete. Secondly, the declining number of people engaging in sport is in great part to be blamed on the lack of facilities. Third, some of the children of today will be the top athletes of the future, so they need to be provided with facilities to get involved in sport. Thus, authorities should provide more public sport spaces to improve the health and sport skills for their citizens.
In conclusion, although spending more money on training top athletes is beneficial for counties’ development, it is more vital if the governments spend that money on providing public sports facilities. Therefore, I believe that the advantages of providing public sports facilities outweigh building specialised facilities.
